A card of thanks
December 2, 2009
Dear Sir,
Thanking you for allowing me and my wife to thank the Lions families of Bermuda. On Friday, October 30, 2008, I arrived on your beautiful island on my official visit to the Lions Clubs of Bermuda. Unfortunately on November 6, 2008, I became very ill at a joint dinner meeting, was driven to the only hospital in Bermuda (KEMH). After twenty-four hours I was told that I have to be admitted, what a shocker, very concerned this being my first trip i.e. my wife's second trip.
All my fears were put to rest with the assurance from ZC Dessie Waldron and Steve Dean, they both stepped up to the plate and took full control of the situation, in arranging someone to be with my wife and driving her back and forth to the hospital. The professionalism that was shown to me from the emergency room until I was transferred to Gordon Ward, under the watchful eyes of Dr. Handel Emery, what a doctor, from his medical team to the custodial dietary staff was exemplified. I also had a room mate, he too was at my beck and call, Mr. Richard Greene. This trip was supposed to be a week, it ended up nineteen days in Bermuda.
Through this medium I would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to the following Lions, Dessie, her mother Madge Smith, Steve, Dave, Omed, Paulette, Margaret, Harriette, Faith and all other Lions and families who visited me while in the hospital. Special thanks to ZC Dessie, who insisted that I go to the hospital. Also the management and staff of Fairmont Southampton especially Mr. Andre Binns, head of security, Mr. Al Eastman and the head of housekeeping department. My doctor here in New York, has high praise for the medical treatment that I received in Bermuda. I am 100 percent better and I owe it all to you in Bermuda. We cruised back to your lovely shores on June 26, 2009, only to be greeted with a luncheon, i.e. it was my wife's birthday, again Lion Dessie arranged it all, to my surprise in attendance was none other than the doctor that saved my life and those that assisted in caring for my wife during that difficult time. On behalf of my wife Flor and I, again many thanks, you Bermudians are very unique. At this time we would like to wish you and yours a very Merry Christmas and a Healthy and Prosperous New Year.
