Line-up set for January’s Just For Laughs comedy festival

Four comedians flew in from Montreal and boy were their arms tired.Okay, maybe we’ll leave the funny stuff to the professionals at Just for Laughs Bermuda. Tickets are on sale now for the annual January comedy festival that hosts top comedians from all over the world.“This will be an evening of rib-tickling entertainment where it’s guaranteed you’ll forget about your problems,” said event organiser Richard Simon. “Your biggest worry will be whether you can stop yourself from falling out of your seat from laughing too hard.”The Just for Laughs Bermuda Festival is a spin-off of a similar show in Montreal featuring the world’s best comedy talent. Many of the comedians who come to Bermuda for the show have appeared previously in the Montreal event.“We’re tickled pink to be holding this in Bermuda once again in the New Year,” said Mr Simon. “This seventh annual edition brings us the comedy styling of quirky Canuck Mark Forward, animated Yankee Orny Adams, and Scottish superstar Danny Bhoy.”American comedian Alonzo Bodden will host the show once again. He will also be performing in a double threat show at City Hall with Danny Bhoy, a top Edinburgh comedian.Mr Bhoy has twice had ten-night stretches of shows at the Montreal Just for Laughs Festival completely sold out, a rare accomplishment. He has appeared on a Comedy Central special and on ‘The Late Show with David Letterman’.“I love Danny Bhoy in a manly way,” joked Mr Simon. “I caught his one-man show in Montreal last year and didn’t stop laughing from beginning to end.”Mr Adams is a newcomer to Just for Laughs Bermuda. He first rose to international prominence after co-starring in Jerry Seinfeld’s documentary ‘Comedian’.He has numerous television credits to his name, including several appearances on ‘The Tonight Show with Jay Leno’ and ‘The Late Show with David Letterman’.He has twice written for the Annual Emmys broadcast and just recently released a one-hour Comedy Central special, ‘Orny Adams Takes The Third’.Mark Forward will also perform for the first time in Bermuda. He wrote for The Comedy Network’s hit show ‘The Jon Dore Television Show’ for two seasons and his recent performance on CBS’ ‘The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson’ garnered him a 2012 Canadian Comedy Award.Last year, he joined the cast of CBC sitcom ‘Mr D’ in the role of stern librarian Mr Leung, and also serves as a staff writer on the series.Tickets are on sale at www.bdatix.bm, Fabulous Fashions at Heron Bay Plaza and All Wrapped Up in the Washington Mall until December 1.Tickets will be on sale after December 1 at Sportseller in the Washington Mall.Tickets can be ordered by phone on 232-2255 ($3 extra charge per ticket applies). For more information visit www.comedyevent.bm or www.hahaha.com or call 232-8499.
