However, despite the seeming domination on the part of a few the races were quite close.

The free-for-all in particular had the crowd on their feet with Nateway, driven by Michael DeCosta, winning both heats easily, but Grand Magic (Charles Whited) and Hoe Down Don (Daniel Greenslade) produced a spirited battle for second.

Performing a similar feat in the 1.16-1.18/4 time bar was J.B's T.W. Bell (Fernando Rego). T.W. Bell clocked her fastest time ever in Bermuda and moved one leg out of the bar in doing so with a time of 1.15/1 in the first heat followed by L&S Mowtown Scott (Edward Roque) and Sandtrap (Sydney DeSilva).

These results also meant that L&S Motown will move to the junior free-for-all after going five seconds faster than his time bar allowed.

Both of those heats -- junior free-for-all -- were won by Sandacre Tashiba (Edward Skaters) who had Little Dinger (Annie Sousa) as his sole competition.

Dinger put up a fight but his antics at the beginning of races continue to be a thorn in the side of his driver.

Disappointing times but great finishes occurred in the 1.16-18/4 bar, which featured V Six (Edward Roque) twice leading home the charge ahead of Fairway Debutante (Sydney DeSilva) and Penny's Wildwood (Michael DeSilva).

Showing that he has overcome the problems that dogged him in his debut last weekend, Penny's Rocky Road (Francis DeSilva) performed impeccably this time around. Spencer's Taylor Maid (Charles Whited) trailed the winner in each race while Creed's Little Miss (Anthony Rego), a 21-year veteran of racing, will be retired after faltering badly.

The next race day takes place on Saturday, October 10.

TENNIS TEN Bank of Bermuda completed the double as league and knockout winners in Division One of the Commercial Tennis League on the weekend.

The bank beat Formula Shell in the final on Saturday while in Division Two, BF&M beat Johnson and Higgins. The Athletic Club stopped Centre Re for the Division Three crown and ACE had a measure of revenge over Division Four league champions Stockholm Re by defending their knockout title.

The All Bermuda Tennis Club Members tournament will be held from October 3-10 at the Tennis Stadium. The entry deadline is October 1 at 7 p.m.

Tomorrow, all persons, especially ABTC members are invited to a Winter League Planning meeting at 5.30 p.m. in the club room.

SAILING SLG Paul Hubbard and crew sailed to victory in Tonka last Sunday to claim the second annual Sir John Cox Yacht Race, sponsored by PWs and the Bermuda Offshore Cruising Association.

The race, which was open to all BOCA members, saw more than 20 boats competing for the top honours in the race.

The 17-mile course resulted in a faster race than course selection officials expected as the winds picked up midway through the day.

William Cox, chief general manager of PWs presented Hubbard and the Tonka crew with their prizes.
