Vandals target preschool playground

Teachers from St George’s Preschool were given a nasty shock yesterday when they turned up at school to find the children’s playground had been vandalised.

They found smashed glass and trash in the driveway, while a children’s playhouse had been completely destroyed. Those responsible for damage had also bent and broken umbrellas.

Principal Jana Pitcher told The Royal Gazette she was left feeling disappointed by the vandalism, especially after pupils had rebuilt the playhouse after Hurricane Nicole.

“We are trying to carry on as normal,” she said. “The damage did not affect us opening and thanks to the janitor from East End Primary we were able to tidy up and mend one of the umbrellas.

“I’m disappointed rather than angry. It would seem that the damage was done at some point on Thursday or Friday because some parents in the area heard glass breaking.”

The school, which caters for 25 pupils, has notified police of the vandalism.

Ms Pitcher added: “Children who are unsupervised can get into trouble.

“We don’t want to paint all the children in St George’s in a bad light, but if we identify who was responsible we would be keen to speak to their parents.

“We must continue to guide these children and teach them to make positive choices as well as to face the consequences of their actions.”
