Tucker's Point gets new directors
EDWARD Trippe, president of Bermuda Properties Ltd., parent company of the Tucker's Point Club, announced yesterday the appointment of Senator Reginald Burrows, JP, Herman Tucker, JP, and Charles Gosling, JP, as directors of the company.
At the same time, two longstanding directors, Richard Pearman and Colin Selley, resigned from the board and were elected directors emeritus.
"We are delighted to have three such distinguished Bermudians join our board of directors," said Mr. Trippe. "Each of the appointees brings to the table a level of experience and expertise that will enable the board to continue to make informed decisions as we move into a very exciting period of growth.''
Senator Burrows represented the formerly-designated seat of Southampton East from 1968, and was apponted a Senator in October 2003. He has represented Bermuda in parliamentary conferences all over the world. He is currently chairman of the Bermuda Immigration Board, a member of the Defence Exemption Tribunal, the Southampton Rangers Sports Club, and the Hamilton Rotary Club.
Educated at what is now Heron Bay Primary School, the Berkeley Institute and Wilberforce University, Senator Burrows has received numerous honours, including the National Association for Equal Opportunity in Higher Education's Presidential Citation. He was also the first honoree of the Bermuda Health Foundation's Salute to Services Award.
Charles Gosling, managing director of Gosling Brothers Ltd., is currently serving his fourth year as President of the Bermuda Chamber of Commerce. He is also a board member of Bermuda Small Business Development Corporation, the Board of Education, and the International Business Forum. He is a director of the Bermuda Alliance for Tourism, as well as several Bermuda companies.
Mr. Gosling, a past president of the Bermuda Zoological Society, is a graduate of Dalhousie University and London's Drama Centre at Chalk Farm.
Herman Tucker is a veteran civil servant, and was appointed Director of Civil Aviation in 1994. In 1999, he became Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Transport. Mr. Tucker left the Civil Service in 2002 following his purchase of the Bermuda Security Group Ltd., and became its president and CEO. He also serves on the executive board of the Chamber of Commerce, the Audit Committee of the Ministry of Finance, and the board of TBI. He is a BA and MBA graduate of the Florida Institute of Technology.
The opening of the new golf clubhouse in December will see the completion of the Tucker's Point Golf Beach and Tennis Club. The Residence Club, the first phase of the tourist accommodations, is scheduled to open in August 2005, and the Tucker's Point Hotel and Cottages are planned to open in 2007.
