Murder victim identified
A young mother who was killed on Friday spoke of her goals and aspirations to give back to the community on an online networking website.
Twenty-three year old ShaKeya Nicole DeRoza was named last night by Police as the Sandys mother-of-two who died.
And a 36-year-old Pembroke man believed to be her boyfriend is in Police custody in connection with her death. He was initially taken to the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital after it was understood he tried to harm himself but was discharged to Police.
Neighbours say Ms DeRoza, a corrections officer, ran from her apartment in Paynter Lane to get help from neighbourhood stores, but collapsed in a pool of blood before she could reach them.
Police say they are treating the death as a murder. Last night, a Police spokesman extended condolences to Ms DeRoza's family and friends.
It is anticipated that an autopsy will be performed on the body of the deceased by a forensic pathologist as early as to.
Ms DeRoza had a profile on My Urban Profile, titled 'Destined to Shine', where she wrote: "The future hasn't happened yet, the past is over, your eternity is right now".
Ms DeRoza also belonged to the social networking sites Hi5 and WAYN which stands for where are you now.
On the site, she had many pictures with her friends, her father and a picture of her mother.
Ms DeRoza, mother of a two-year-old boy and a girl almost one-year-old wrote on My Urban Profile: "I have big dreams and I am going places. I aspire to become a psychologist focusing on the issues of today and helping those who feel they have no hope for a bright future.
"I also plan on having my own clothing store which will also sell CDs and DVDs. In the end I just want to give back."
She continued: "I am outgoing and love to have fun but know that there is a time and a place for everything and these are some serious times.
"I have my head on my shoulders and take things a day at a time, making decisions in regards to my future.
"Every action has a reaction, whether it be immediate or not until later on, so I go on that when deciding what to do. I am not one to let my past destroy or prevent things for me in the future.
"To me the sky is the limit so unless the sky is falling then I have no limit and no Chicken Little is going to determine the status of the sky for me."
The incident took place at around 3 p.m. Friday.
Police cordoned off the forecourt outside the florists, which is also known as Hog Bay Flowers due to its location opposite Hog Bay Park.
The Rose's Flower Shop and Steel City clothes store were less than a hundred yards away, but the woman, bare-chested and bloodied, collapsed in front of a shopkeeper.
A blue tarpaulin and a Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service appliance screened the body from public view while forensic officers and detectives combed the scene.

Detectives are particularly interested in speaking with anyone who observed a man on the Railway Trail (between Somerset Bridge Post Office - Overplus Lane, Sandy's) during the period 1.30 and 3 p.m. on Friday and encourage them to contact the Serious Crime Unit at 299-8115.
