Broadley's legacy must be preserved

Derek Broadley

So what will the Bermuda Football Association (BFA) do now they have decided technical director Derek Broadley is no longer the man to take football forward on the Island?

I, for one, have absolutely no idea.

Certainly, for the most part, I think Broadley has given Bermudian football some much-needed structure and I've definitely seen some progress.

I'd like to go on the record and wish him all the best with his future endeavours.

I must say I'm very intrigued as to what the BFA will do now because this is a vital time and any major decisions made should not be made lightly – they're absolutely critical.

They've already made a massive decision as there's probably never a good time to let go of your technical director who has drawn up your Strategic Plan and mapped out how you're going to move forward.

Football was at a low point a few years ago and I think we're now at a stage where the game is starting to turn the corner and make small steps forward.

Obviously the Bermuda Hogges have been instrumental in that improvement.

My understanding is that Broadley has put in place a foundation and structure that should last way beyond his tenure.

Now, if it's dismantled with a new guy coming in and changing everything, then Broadley's three-year period as technical director will have all been a complete waste of time.

I guess the next guy will follow the current Strategic Plan and build on the foundations Broadley has put in place.

If it was good enough for us two years ago then why is not good enough for us now?

The BFA have made their decision on Broadley and they obviously think this is the best way to kick on.

As to who replaces Richard Calderon as the BFA president next month, well, I wish them all best.

If I've learned one thing since I returned to Bermuda it's that it's a very political place and sometimes speaking your mind doesn't get you anywhere.

In the past it certainly hasn't always done me any favours!

I'll just be concentrating on making progress at North Village in the Premier Division this coming season.

I'm delighted to welcome back Keishen Bean from Somerset Eagles and Tyrell Burgess who has been playing professionally overseas.

They're both quality players and will certainly improve Village's attacking options and help us win more silverware.

Tyrell's experienced a slight knock, as things didn't quite work out for him in England where he has been having trials at professional clubs, Gateshead and Barnet.

But it's always good to come back to a place where you're wanted and appreciated. He knows he'll always get a warm welcome at Village.
