Steede hopes for mid-table finish
Devonshire Cougars and PHC Zebras will both be looking for their first wins of the season when they meet in the Premier Division tomorrow night at Devonshire Recreation Club.
Cougars are joint bottom with Hamilton Parish after three straight defeats while PHC are just ahead of them on two points.
Kwame Steede, the Cougars coach, acknowledged after Sunday’s loss to Dandy Town Hornets that it will be a season of rebuilding for the club.
“We need to re-establish ourselves with our youngsters, that’s our main goal for this season,” Steede said after his team’s 4-0 loss to Town.
Steede is in his first season as coach after replacing Andrew Bascome and he recognises the tough task ahead of him after losing nine players in the summer, including Drewonde Bascome and Philip Parsons to North Village, Dominique Williams and Raymond Beach to Hornets and Derrick Brangman to BAA Wanderers.
“This is a rebuilding season for Cougars,” he said. “If we can place somewhere in the middle of the table by the end of the season, this will be considered a good season for us.”
Cougars have scored just two goals in three games while conceding ten.
Their only success so far was a 2-1 win over Town in the Dudley Eve Trophy, only to miss out the semi-finals by the drawing of lots after the three teams in group B finished level on three points and with identical goal differences.
PHC topped group A with two victories to advance to the semi-finals next weekend when they will meet Town. However, their focus is on tomorrow’s game as they must turn things around in the league where they are still without a win after drawing at home with Boulevard last weekend.
