Cruise ship waiter on trial over alleged cocaine smuggling plot

A cruise ship waiter has gone on trial today accused of being the ringleader in a plot to import cocaine to Bermuda. The alleged conspiracy aboard the Explorer of the Seas was uncovered when workmen found a bag of cocaine in a disco on the vessel, a Supreme Court jury heard.Jamaican national Ricardo Valentine Stewart, 32, was named by prosecutor Carrington Mahoney as the person behind the plot. And, said Mr Mahoney, a Jamaican cleaner on the ship named Adrian Morris was roped in by him to move the cocaine around the ship.Mr Mahoney explained that passengers were initially used to bring the drugs on board. When the plot was uncovered Mr Morris helped police with the names of those allegedly involved in the plot. "He named the accused man as the ringleader," said Mr Mahoney.Mr Stewart, of Ocho Rios, Jamaica, denies conspiring with Mr Morris and others not before the court to import cocaine.Only Mr Stewart is on trial and the case continues.
