Inquiries continue into cricket club fight
A fight at a cricket club that attracted international attention online and resulted in two players being banned is being investigated by the Bermuda Police Service.
Jason Anderson has already received a lifetime ban from the Bermuda Cricket Board for physically assaulting another player, while George O’Brien received a temporary ban by the board for threatening to assault another player.
Video footage of the altercation, which took place on September 12 at the St David’s Cricket Club during a match between Cleveland County and Willow Cuts, shows Mr Anderson approaching Mr O’Brien from behind and hitting him on the face.
While other players tried to separate the pair, the footage shows Mr O’Brien swinging his bat at Mr Anderson and Mr Anderson kicking at Mr O’Brien’s head.
Police yesterday confirmed they were continuing their investigation into the incident.
The footage has spread across the internet, with dozens of blogs and news outlets as far away as India, Australia and New Zealand picking up on the story. The Washington Post wrote that “things got wicked between the wickets when a massive brawl broke out during a match in Bermuda”, while the Express Tribune said the altercation was “as ugly as it could get”.
The story was also picked up by ESPNCricinfo, the Telegraph, the Guardian, the Times of India and the Sydney Morning Herald, among others.
