Warwick win ruins Fox debut
St. David's 157 Perry Scott cracked 85 and Devon Govia snatched three wickets for 22 to lead Warwick to a 25-run victory over St. David's in First Division Open play on Sunday at Lord's.
The result proved a blow to new St. David's player-coach Graham Fox, the former St. George's Cup Match skipper, who was making his debut for the Islanders.
Scott spearheaded Warwick to a respectable total, striking seven sixes and five fours during an impressive stay at the wicket. He joined skipper Allan Wilkinson (26) in a sound sixth-wicket partnership that produced 79 runs as they took the score from 86 for five to 165. Scott finally fell lbw to Rudell Pitcher.
Also among the runs for Warwick were opener Trent Simmons with 16 and Jeff James with 15.
Spinner Del Hollis was the best of the St. David's bowlers, taking five wickets for 42 runs off 12 overs, including three maidens, while Pitcher had three for 34 off nine overs of which three were maidens.
St. David's fell shy of their target despite a sound knock of 59 by Sammy Robinson. Hollis followed with 16, Chris Foggo 15 and Graham Fox 13. Govia took 3-22 from seven overs while Wilkinson, Caines and Dudley Lightbourne each snatched two wickets.
Flatts 223 Somerset CC 102 Flatts defeated Somerset by 121 runs at Devonshire Rec. as seven of their batsmen reached double figures.
Mike Burgess led the onslaught with 53 while opener Troy Dean chipped in with 44. New player-coach Dwayne Leverock scored 28, Quinn Outerbridge 20, Phillip Burgess 17, Gershon Gibbons 17 and Raji Edness 14.
Sidney Simmons was the top bowler for Somerset with four for 65 off 21 overs, including three maidens. Steval Mendes and T.Robinson grabbed two wickets apiece for the west enders.
Kelly Simmons was top scorer for Somerset with 17 while C.Furbert made 12 and Eugene Johnson 10.
Kevin Hurdle took four for 22 off 13 overs of which five were maidens while Troy Bean had two for 18 off seven overs and Leverock two for 12 off 12.1 overs, including three maidens.
PHC 132 Somerset Bridge 34 Somerset Bridge paid dearly for fielding just nine men in their home match at White Hill Field, losing to PHC by 98 runs.
A.Green was top bat for PHC with an unbeaten 37 while M.Smith added 24 and K.Charles 14.
Skipper Corvett Lambert led the Bridge bowling attack with four for 33 off 15 overs while Denzel Dill took four for 36 off 17 overs, including three maidens.
Opener L.Brangman was the only Bridge batsmen in double figures with 11. PHC skipper Cal Waldron was their leading bowler with three for three off six overs of which four were maidens while Charles had three for seven off six overs and three maidens.
The draw for the Camel Cup has league champions Western Stars taking on Willow Cuts at Southampton Oval and St. George's playing Police at Somerset CC. Both semi-finals will be played this Saturday.
The final on Sunday will feature a match-up between the two winners at St.
David's.
