Tuesday night to snatch the Gosling Cup.

St. George's, of the Second Division, gave their highly rated foes an early jolt in running to a 2-0 lead.

The first frame saw Colony's Terry Southern well ahead of Irvin Hayward and seemingly on his way to victory, only to have Hayward suddenly come alive and rip past him to grab a 53-32 win.

Likewise, Dave McLean looked in prime position during the opening stages of the second frame against the east enders' Timmy Hayward, but he too was unable to put away his opponent, who took the key colours to finish the match a 42-28 victor.

Down 2-0, prospects appeared bleak for Colony, but they were able to dig deep enough to right the ship, with Tyler Moniz ousting Edwin Hayward 56-36 in the third frame, while Robert Gaglio beat Billy Peniston 50-38 on the black ball.

It was then left to Colony's Paul Charleton and Randy Patterson of St.

George's to settle matters, with Charleton proving too much for Patterson, winning 57-25.

Two weeks of league play remain with Old Colony Club II in an all but unassailable position atop the standings, leading by five points over club mates, Old Colony I.

Meanwhile, three weeks of action remain in the Second Division, where a tie exists between Queens Club II and Watford Sports Club II.

The Bermuda Open championships will be played next month, with singles matches taking place on March 4 and doubles on March 6.

Players are reminded to give results to Bobby Miller (296-1409) or leave them at the Old Colony Club.

And race director Patrick Hackenberg expects even more -- providing the weather is co-operative -- for the half-mile second race, which consists of two quarter-mile loops.

Next race is a three quarter of a mile swim at Evans Bay Wharf on March 12 followed by a one-mile swim at the public dock on Harrington Sound.
