Two people charged with gun related offences

Two people one a 24-year-old mother appeared in court yesterday charged with gun offences.

Anthony Levon Swan, 21, was charged yesterday at Magistrates' Court with possessing a firearm, possessing three 9 mm rounds, discharging ammunition, possessing a firearm to endanger lives, shooting at Raymond Troy "Yankee" Rawlins and stealing a motorcycle and driving it recklessly.

According to Crown Counsel Cindy Clarke, all of the offences took place on Court Street, in Pembroke last Wednesday.

At around 10 a.m. that day, three shots were fired outside C&R Discount at the junction of Elliot Street and Court Street, but no one was injured. The incident was one of several firearms incidents this month, which have left three men dead and another injured.

Swan, represented in court by Marc Daniels, stood quietly, showing no emotion.

Tiffany Eatherley, 24, also appeared in Magistrates' Court yesterday charged with possessing a firearm and a single 9 mm round between January 13, 2009, and December 16.

The 24-year-old part-time model and mother-of-two, represented by Shade Subair, cried silently during the proceedings.

More than half-a-dozen Police officers, most of which were dressed in suits, stood in the crowded courtroom as the charges were read.

Neither of the accused were required to enter a plea because the charges they face are indictable.

Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner remanded both Swan and Eatherley into custody.

Eatherley is expected to return to Magistrates' Court for mention on January 4, while Swan is scheduled for mention on January 5.
