Solid starts put Douglas cousins top of the pile

Logic Player of Week: Allan Douglas with Vicki Coelho, Logic CEO

First cousins Allan Douglas, of Cleveland County, and Chris Douglas, of Devonshire Recreation Club, have became this season’s first Logic Players of the Week after both scored unbeaten centuries last weekend.

Allan, the Cleveland captain, hit a career-best 131 not out as his team beat Somerset Cricket Club in the Premier Division, while Chris helped his new side beat Somerset Bridge in the second tier after scoring 128 not out at Devonshire Recreation Club.

“I’d like to thank my club, the coaches and staff at Cleveland for supporting me during pre-season and leading up to the first game,” said Allan Douglas, whose previous best score was 117 not out in a Twenty20 match against Warwick Workman’s Club in 2011.

“I’m looking to be in the top three for most runs at the end of the season and to be in contention for MVP,” added Douglas, who also wants to reclaim the St George’s Cup Match spot he lost last season.

“It’s always anybody’s intention after they’ve been dropped, so of course that will be one of my main focuses, but Eastern Counties is definitely my main priority.

“This is only the first game but hopefully I can carry this form into the many weeks to come.”

Douglas added 168 runs with coach Clay Smith for the fourth wicket.

“Batting with an experienced batsman like [Smith], he talked me through my whole innings until he got out,” Douglas said. “He came in number four so he was there before me to stabilise the innings after we were 120 for three.”

Douglas was happy to hear that cousin Chris also started the league season with a century, having transferred from Willow Cuts. “The last time we played against each other he was playing for Cuts and I scored 113 and he and scored 118 to win the game,” Douglas said.

“This week I went to his house and told him ‘I finally got you’ but it was a well deserved knock by him.”

*Logic has extended its sponsorship of the Premier and First Division for another three years, the Bermuda Cricket Board announced yesterday. The sponsorship involves the two leagues as well as Player of the Week and Player of the Year awards, as well as providing free broadband internet service to the BCB office and all member clubs.

Neil Speight, the BCB executive director, said: “The BCB is thrilled to renew the partnership with Logic Communications who has consistently proven to be a community-minded organisation.”
