Recent ferry service related incidents
Marine and Ports workers are believed to have stopped work this week due to concern about maintenance of the fast ferry fleet.
Here are some incidents involving the vessels in recent years:
• December 2009: Warbaby Fox was damaged when she fell from dry-dock in Dockyard. A marine cradle being used to lift the 127ft ferry collapsed as she was hauled out of the water and the ferry crashed to the ground.
• February 2008: Maintenance issues saw the temporary suspension of the St. George's ferry service. Marine and Ports mechanics undertook maintenance on the Tempest and the Venturilla, while Warbaby Fox shifted from her St. George's route to West End duties.
• December 2007: The J. L. Cecil Smith collided with the Rockaway ferry dock in Southampton, resulting in "extensive" damage to the dock as well as damage to the ferry. Marine pilot Dwayne Pearman later admitted to being more than twice the legal alcohol limit at the time.
• September 2007: The Serenity slammed into a Dockyard wharf after attempting to dock with about 47 passengers on board, some of whom suffered injuries.
• February 2007: Warbaby Fox suffered a broken main cabin window when she hit a massive wave near Fort St. Catherine.
• November 2006: Warbaby Fox suffered minor damage after rough seas caused the vessel to smash into the dock in St. George's.
• September 2006: The Resolute suffered gear box failure as she was pulling into Dockyard to drop off passengers and reportedly bumped into another ferry at the dock.
