Blazers desperate to get campaign back on track
Boulevard will play their third match in seven days tomorrow when they tackle Southampton Rangers at St. John's Field in an attempt to get their league campaign back on track.
Having lost their opening day game against landlords Dandy Town 2-0 and then sharing the spoils in their Dudley Eve match on Tuesday against PHC, Blazers will feel that victory tomorrow would do them justice.
Striker Angelo Simmons believes that the tougher matches early in their campaign will help them in the long run, as they've already played two physical games against the division's bigger sides.
"We haven't played up to our potential, had a few injuries and mixing in players to find the right blend, so it will click and when it does we will be alright," said Simmons.
"We aren't worried about what others are doing in the league, we are worried about ourselves.
"The guys know we have to win the game in order to get our league campaign back on track so we will be looking for the three points. In the game against Town last weekend we came out flat and never got into the match.
"The league is our main concern and we will be looking to take maximum points."
In Rangers, Blazers face a side who believe they were hard done by in their 2-1 defeat to PHC last Sunday, having taken the lead early in the first half.
The difference between the two sides, Simmons stated, will be the ability of his men to put their chances away.
"Against Rangers, when we have our chances we need to take them and that should be our focus.
"Of course, we have extra pressure with the way we performed last year but it don't matter to us, at the end of the day we want wins.
"We have to play seven games this month and will look to get good results in the remaining fixtures."
In tomorrow's match of the day, Dandy Town old boy Antwan Russell knows there will be no family favours from his big brother Tokia when Somerset Eagles tackle Hornets, with both sides flying high.
Sunday's showdown will see the footballing siblings go toe-to-toe for the first time ever with the younger Russell brother also hoping to put one over on his former Hornets team-mates.
The Bermuda Hogges striker signed for Eagles from Town in pre-season and believes he will have to be at the top of his game to get the better of defence lynchpin and Town skipper Tokia, who recently signed for the St.John's Field side from PHC.
"The match this weekend will obviously be a special one for me for various reasons," said Russell, who played alongside his brother for the Hogges last term. "I get to play against my old club as well as my brother so it will be a fascinating match-up to say the least.
"This will be the first time I will be playing against my big brother in a competitive match, so it will fun for both of us. I know he isn't going to give me anything so I will have to bring my 'A' game to get the job done.
"I will have to take the chances I get."
In the day's other matches, PHC will look to continue their winning start to the season when they face Hamilton Parish at Southampton Oval, while Devonshire Colts entertain Somerset Trojans at Police Field in a battle of sides looking for their first win of the season.
All matches kick off at 3.00 p.m.
