RG: Fantasy League

Wayne Rooney celebrated Manchester United's third goal against Tottenham at Old Trafford with a boxing move, referencing a video that appears to show him being knocked out.

Wayne Rooney’s goal celebration was good, make no mistake — but let’s not go overboard.

In a rare show of wit, the Manchester United striker’s re-enactment of the much-publicised kitchen “knockout” scene was impressive.

Football hasn’t seen acting that good since Craig Bellamy reached for his imaginary seven iron.

But the best? Let’s not forget the rich history of goal celebrations that have stood the test of time and avoided slipping into cliché.

Gazza’s dentist chair, Lee Sharpe’s Elvis, Temuri Ketsbaia’s deranged assault on the advertising boards and Jimmy Bullard mocking his manager’s on-pitch half-time b********* all spring to mind.

My favourite, though, is Dzimtry Koub, who marked his late equaliser for Lithuanian side Trakai against Zalgiris by going into a sparse stand, sitting down and politely applauding his own headed goal. Give it a watch at www.youtube.com/watch?v=s2ihzpxJGPk.

Tomorrow’s games

12pm kick-off unless stated

Man City v West Brom

9.45am

Man City’s season is in danger of slipping away after defeats to Burnley and then Barcelona. What should give them hope is West Brom’s dismal away form — no win in nine — and their past ability to dispatch the Baggies — six straight victories.

Prediction: 2-0

Aston Villa v Swansea

Two wins on the spin for Villa who appear galvanised by new manager Tim Sherwood, who was busy this week taking all the credit for Harry Kane’s England call-up.

Swansea were neat but toothless against Liverpool on Monday and need more cutting edge to stop Villa making it win No 3.

Prediction: 2-1

Newcastle United

v Arsenal

Newcastle have won just one in five at home and the end of the season can’t come quick enough for them.

As for the Gunners, one renowned journalist has even suggested they could challenge Chelsea’s cruise to the title.

They should be kicking themselves over the Champions League exit and Newcastle are the ideal team to face when you need to get rid of some frustration.

Prediction: 0-3

Southampton v Burnley

It says it all that despite being short of goals and their blistering early-season form, Southampton come into this game off the back of a well-deserved draw at Stamford Bridge. Burnley, of course, had an even more impressive result, beating Man City 1-0. Sean Dyche’s side look like they are playing for him and each other, which could be crucial as the relegation dogfight nears its climax.

Prediction: 1-1

Stoke v Crystal Palace

Stoke’s defeat at WBA came as a surprise given their fine recent form.

Palace have hauled themselves to safety and have been good on the road recently. However, they are without the influential Jason Puncheon, which could open the door for a return to winning ways for Mark Hughes’s side.

Prediction: 2-0

Tottenham v Leicester

Harry Kane was, as expected, called up to the England squad for the first time and he will see this as the ideal opportunity to add to his 24 goals this season.

Nigel Pearson swore at a journalist last time out which, apart from showing a lack of class, would also suggest he knows what’s coming — relegation and the sack.

Prediction: 3-1

West Ham v Sunderland

2.30pm

Neither team are in good form but Sunderland have a new man at the helm after Gustavo Poyet’s sacking earlier in the week — even Poyet, you suspect, was relieved by the decision.

Vastly experienced Dutch coach Dick Advocaat is now tasked with saving Sunderland from the drop and his past suggests he will not suffer fools in the process.

Prediction: 1-1

Sunday’s games

Liverpool v Man United

10.30am

Liverpool’s recent record is impressive — not least the fact they have managed to keep seven clean sheets in a row.

That will be tested by a United side who finally rediscovered their swagger in beating Spurs 3-0. Ángel Di María was absent.

A coincidence? Or not? Liverpool to grab an early lead by Louis van Gaal’s boys to rally well.

Prediction: 1-1

Hull City v Chelsea

1pm

Hull are edging towards safety and have lost only one of their past six games.

It’s hard to see Chelsea — now free of European worries — messing this one up, though.

Prediction: 1-2

QPR v Everton

Both teams, in their own way, look a spent force this season. Everton are a pale imitation of last season’s impressive all-round side and leak goals.

QPR, meanwhile, have lost their past four games and are surely destined to return to the Championship.

1pm

Prediction: 2-2
