De Frias named partner at Mello Jones & Martin

Denis de Frias has joined his brother Hildeberto de Frias as a partner at law firm Mello Jones & Martin.

The appointment of Denis de Frias is effective on February 1 and follows the appointment of Hildeberto de Frias in February.

Denis de Frias 33, will head the firm's property practice and will be responsible for a wide range of property matters including residential and commercial real estate acquisitions and sales, mortgages, condominium developments and other property transactions.

He is looking forward to play a role in the firm's future development following the departure of founding partner Elizabeth Jones and the firm's move to new offices at Thistle House on the corner of Burnaby and Church Street.

"I have a passion for property, especially Bermuda property. Being a born Bermudian I have lot of interest when I review title deeds and see neighbourhoods I am very familiar with.

"Property law in Bermuda is at a point where it might change as there has been some discussion of land registry be registered by a central registrar administered by the Government and I look forward to these challenges."

He was educated at Warwick Academy and York University, Canada, where he obtained a degree in economics.

He holds a law degree (L.L.B) from the University of Kent, England. On his return to Bermuda, Mr. de Frias joined Mello Jones & Martin in 1997 and was called to the Bermuda Bar in 1998.

"I am excited and I think all my hard work has paid off to a certain extent but it definitely does not end here. There is a lot more responsibility as head of the property department.

"I hope to continue the great traditions of the firm and increase the quality of our services. One of the reasons I entered the legal profession was my brother and has been been pleasure to work alongside him."

"I have had the partners' guidance and encouragement every step of the way. To be made a partner with Mello Jones & Martin is a major personal and professional accomplishment."
