Man found guilty of sex assault
A man who broke into a woman's home and raped her at knifepoint, leaving her fearing she has AIDS, was jailed for 30 years today.
After Kingsley Eugene Burgess, 54, was convicted by the unanimous verdict of a jury, it was revealed he had committed a similar break-in and rape in 1979.
Jailing him, Puisne Judge Carlisle Greaves described him as a "cold, calculating, dangerous, wicked person."
The seven-day Supreme Court trial had heard how Burgess threatened to kill his victim if she looked at him during the horrific night-time attack. After forcing her to shower, and stealing items from her home including cash, he made her drive to an ATM and hand over $1,000.
Mr. Justice Greaves said Burgess must be jailed for as long as possible for the protection of all women in Bermuda.
See tomorrow's edition of The Royal Gazette for a full report of today's proceedings.
