Two car drivers banned for impaired driving
Two men admitted to driving while impaired when they appeared in Magistrates' Court.
Kyle Tavares, 21, of Fairylands Lane, in Pembroke, was caught on South Road outside St. Patrick's Church.
The court heard how Police arrived on the scene to find a group of men pack racing. All the men involved quickly drove off, but as he tried to get away Tavares crashed his car into a wall.
Police approached him and noticed he appeared to be intoxicated. He later admitted to Police that he had a few drinks that night.
He was taken to Hamilton Police Station where he was given a breathalyser test, the lower reading of which showed that Tavares had 122 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood in his system. The legal limit is 80 mg of alcohol per 100 ml of blood.
In another case, Maurice Woodmore, 53, of Southcourt Avenue, in Paget, was caught driving while impaired on December 13.
The court heard that Police conducting laser speed checks on Trimmingham Hill were alerted to a blue motor car driving at 63 kph.
Officers stopped the driver, Woodmore, and noticed his eyes were glazed and that he smelled strongly of alcohol.
When Woodmore was cautioned he made no reply.
Both men were fined $800 and disqualified from driving all vehicles for one year. They were also given 10 demerit points, which will be recorded against them.
