Age Concern treasurer on cross-Britain trek

James McCulloch, who has survived triple-bypass heart surgery and also happens to be an amputee, is close to completing a 1000 mile bicycle ride the length of Great Britain.

Mr. McCulloch, the treasurer for Age Concern Bermuda, set out May 14 on a personal quest to raise funds and awareness for Age Concern Bermuda.

From Land's End, the southern most tip of the UK, to John O'Groats, at the top of the UK, typically takes walkers anywhere between two and three months and cyclists between ten and fourteen days. Before setting out on the journey Mr. McCulloch stressed that he was in no rush and planned to use the trip to explore his some country, stopping at towns and landmarks along the way to refresh and "stop to smell the roses".

A personal goal of Mr. McCulloch for sometime, he had planned to complete the trek in around six to eight weeks. At this rate, if all goes well he should complete it within six.

Claudette Fleming the Executive Director of Age Concern, a Bermuda-based support charity for senior, stated that she was excited that James had reached this personal achievement. She said James' decision to take on the bike riding feat, as a retiree who has recovered from serious health challenges, is in keeping with Age Concern's belief that life can begin and get better at 50 years old and beyond.

Mrs. Fleming added: "James' success will be even more worthwhile if the public gets behind him in his last days before completion to donate to his effort".
