People often wonder what goes on with a team while they are on tour.

Well this week I will give you a peek into my coach's daily log to highlight the duties of a coach and players while on tour for the St.Kitt's under-13 Caribbean invitational.

Day 1: We all arrived at the airport on time, got pictures taken, and waited patiently for our flight.

The flight left Bermuda almost 30 minutes late, which caused havoc, because once the team landed in New York we had less then two minutes before the gate closed for our connecting flight.

As a team we sprinted to our connecting flight, which luckily was the next gate down.

Barely making the flight we boarded and the captain was ready to depart, hence no chance of our bags joining us on the same plane.

If we thought that was bad the worst was yet to come.

Nearly 10 minutes prior to landing the captain gained our attention on the microphone and stated that due to poor weather in Miami we could not land there so we would have to divert to West Palm Beach.

As we were landing in West Palm Beach the pilot announced that the plane had hydraulic issues and that the AC wasn't working, and that's why we had to make a quick decision to land there.

Upon landing we could see the fire trucks, ambulances, and all other emergency personnel -basically we were forced to make an emergency landing.

The captain then reported that the plane had mechanical problems that he doubted would be fixed, and he was right, because an hour later we were all bused to Miami airport.

I just thanked God for watching over us because that situation could have been a lot worse then what it was.

Fortunately for us by the time we got to Miami our bags had landed on the next flight. Having been bused to our hotel in Miami over-night we ordered pizzas for the kids and informed them of our plans for the next day.

Day 2: We woke up at 6 am to have breakfast as a team at 6:45.

Then it was on to the airport to travel to St. Kitt's.

The flight to St.Kitt's was smooth and the boys were amazed as we approached St.Kitt's, as there were several really high mountains.

Once on the ground we met the tour organizer Mr Springer who had two buses ready to transport us and the bags to our hotel.

It was no more then a 15-minute drive to our hotel.

The Royal St. Kitt's. Upon arriving it took almost an hour to check-in.

While checking-in there were at least two other couples who had checked-in and then checked-out because they were not satisfied with the standard and quality of their rooms.

Having inspected all of the rooms there were some of our rooms that were not up to standard and had to be changed. That afternoon the boys relaxed before having a team meeting to discuss the following days' plans. Then we ate together before turning in for the night.

Day 3: The boys were up bright an early at 7a.m. where they done a slight jog just to get them acclimatised, followed by a really good stretch.

Then we had a nice relaxing swim in the pool where we actually continued stretching exercises and swimming exercises up and down the pool.

After eating breakfast I was bombarded by a few players concerning the state of their rooms. Immediately I corresponded with the manager on tour about their concerns.

It would get worse as the day went on as my good friend and assistant coach Damon Edward's room caught on fire from a short in his iron.

Fortunately he was not in the room at the time and nothing major was damaged.

This prompted an immediate call to the Cricket Board, who in turn worked effortlessly to move us across the street to the Marriot Hotel.

That afternoon the boys attended the opening ceremony where they had to sing the national anthem.

As a coach I could look into their eyes and could see that they were a little intimidated, but they did well.

The tournament was pushed back a day, due to two teams not arriving because of bad weather. Upon returning back to the hotel the boys were glad to find out that we were relocating to another hotel.

Everyone packed their bags immediately and lugged them across the road.

Day 4: The boys had a late breakfast, then some two hours later met at the beach for an hour-long session, which included fitness and agility catching drills.

This was followed by a pool session where they were put through their paces.

At 6 p.m. we met to announce the team and to discuss some of the finer aspects of the game that we as coaches thought would be of importance.

After the meeting we had a team dinner where the skipper Kieshon Smith, lead us in prayer.

Immediately following dinner the boys returned to their rooms to pack their cricket bags and it was lights out.

Day 5: Today was our first game v St. Kitt's.

We got off to an incredible start taking a wicket in the first over of the game.

For approximately 15 overs we dominated, restricting them to 99 for 7 with some seven overs remaining.

However, I have to give credit where credit is due. St. Kitt's had two gentlemen who batted superbly and put on a 42 run partnership to take their total to 141.

Dage Minors bowled extremely well 5 overs, one wicket for 16 runs and so did Khalif Williams who bowled 5 overs, 2 wickets for 19 runs.

Unfortunately, probably due to first game jitters we gave up 46 extras, 35 of them through wide balls.

In reply we started reasonably well as Joshua and Zende put on 30 runs for the first wicket before the latter was run out. We made steady inroads, but two important run outs hurt us as the captain Kieshon Smith and CJ Marshall were both run out cheaply.

We had a later surge by Giovanni Warren who posted 33 not out, but in the end we ended up 10 runs short.

After the game we returned to our hotel for a team swim followed by a meeting to discuss the positives and negatives. The team was named for the following day, the boys then ate dinner before it was lights out for the night.

Overall the tour has been fabulous.

The boys have been given tremendous applause for the way that they conduct themselves on and off of the field. Several folks at the hotel have congratulated us on how well behaved the boys are.

They have upheld the true Bermudian culture and pride, thus serving as great ambassadors for our country.

n Bermuda's under 15s lost to USA under-15s by two wickets in their third match of the Americas Regional Tournament at the Erkshire Cricket Ground in Brooklyn, New York, yesterday.

Bermuda, who won the toss and elected to bat in a match that is crucial as all teams were tied for points at the top of the table, scored 172 for nine off 40 overs with Shea Pitcher top scoring with 45.

Pitcher had stepped down as skipper of the team prior to the game as he no longer felt comfortable in the job. He was replaced by Joshua Gilbert.

In reply USA rattled off the required total off 35.5 overs. Bermuda bowled a staggering 38 wides. They face Canada today.
