Stonington launches hunt for hotelier
The hunt has started for the new general manager of the Government-run Stonington Beach Hotel.
The Board of Directors of the Paget resort are advertising for a new leader, after the position became vacant following the resignation of Esan Frederick.
Mr. Frederick left earlier this month and shortly afterwards took over at the nearby White Sands hotel.
Hospitality consultant Leon O'Brien is in charge at Stonington and it is understood he will remain there until the new general manager is appointed.
The new boss will face a tough task, turning around the fortunes of the 64-room facility which provides on-the-job training for Bermuda College's hospitality students.
The successful applicant will face the twin tasks of providing effective development for students, as well as making the hotel a commercial success.
Last year the Stonington lost around $275,000 and in previous years it has struggled financially.
But there are plans to build new guest units and with Government funding, the ultimate aim is to turn it into a premier property.
Earlier in the year, Mr. O'Brien was brought in on a nine-month contract to help prepare a five-year plan to set the facility on a firm foundation for the future.
The deadline for applications for the post of general manager is January 14.
