Karters turn up the heat

prevent competitors from turning in outstanding performances during recent action in the Bermuda Karting Club's race day at Southside.

Such was the enthusiasm of participants and fans that four heats were held instead of the usual three.

In the Open class Andrew DeCosta continued to hold down first, finishing the day with a first and three thirds. David Barboza was second with two seconds, a third and a fourth while Andy Stoneham placed third overall with two first, one second and one third. Aaron DeShields however still holds onto second place overall for the season and recorded a first, fourth and fifth on Sunday.

In the Shifter B Class Michael Corrado and Shannon Caisey were involved in a tough battle all day for the top spot. Corrado finished with two firsts and two seconds while Caisey followed with two firsts and two seconds. Scott Viera remained competitive and finished the day holding on to third place in the standings.

In the Shifter A Class John Carreiro Jr. took over the lead in the class from Jason North, Carreiro finishing with three firsts and a second. Jason DeCouto followed with two seconds and two thirds while Seon Smith, making a return after his accident last season, had some mechanical problems but still managed to finish two races with a second and a fourth place.

Yamaha Medium Class action saw John Carreiro Jr. and Justin Morley fought hard for superiority with the former finishing ahead after taking two firsts and as many seconds. Morley followed with three thirds and a dnf. Michael DeCosta held off Kyle Lathan and Denard Lima to finish third. Yamaha Light Class activity saw Tanya Madeiros and Scott Barnes battle for first and second places in two of the heats. But Michael Desilva still leads in the class with Barnes second and Justin Kuhn third.

In the Can Class Stewart Ball remains the class leader but has to be careful of the challenge being offered by Rian Lindo who finished Sunday with three firsts which enabled him to move into second overall. Brandon Franks lost that place.

Junior competition saw Clayton Harshaw hold onto first place with three top finishes while Adam Correia followed with second place positions in all four heats. Ryan DeSilva took third for the day but Natasha Camera holds down third overall in the class.

Next race day is Sunday, March 4 when the annual Grand Prix starts at 12 noon.
