Join the fight against heart disease
by joining what is hoped will be Bermuda's Largest Aerobics Class.
The Athletic Club is sponsoring the major outdoor fund-raising, with `The Captain' from Power 95 emceeing 90 minutes of `Fun and Fitness' on the BAA Field on Woodlands Road. Participants will ask friends, family and colleagues to sponsor their work-out. It is hoped that individuals and members from other clubs and groups will take part in the event.
"We do a fund-raiser each year. This is the biggest effort yet and two years ago, we managed to raise $9,000 for the Bermuda Heart Foundation. We're hoping to top that this year!'' says Ms Kym Burns, the Club's managing director.
"Our aerobics demo team, `Just Jammin'' will open the events followed by a few words from Joan Cabral of the Foundation. There will be a team of our aerobics instructors who will be there to help everyone work out.'' Eight instructors will be team-teaching the class, headed by Mr. Yves Paul, the Canadian aerobics champion and The Athletic Club's resident aerobics director.
Emphasising that "anyone can join in -- it's for all levels from beginners to advanced'', Ms Burns says she is encouraging other clubs to join in. "We want the whole community to come together and get inolved in this.'' Funds raised from the event will go towards the purchase of a much-needed Patient Monitoring System.
"It's not all hard work,'' says Ms Burns, "It should be a lot of fun, with raffles and prizes. So we're hoping that everyone will get busy, collecting as much sponsorship money as possible, to raise money for this very good cause.'' Everyone who participates is eligible and there will be major prizes for the top six people who have collected the most sponsorship money, and a grand prize of a colour TV donated by Kellogg's who, along with the Argus Group of Companies are two of the main sponsors.
Other sponsors are the Department of Youth and Sport, BAA, Marie's Energy Express, Tucker's Tees and Great Sound. Refreshments are being donated by The Market Place, Duffy's Deli and Evian.
Ms Burns says that a minimum of $30 (collected through sponsorship or donated by the participant) is required to take part and receive a free T-shirt.
Juniors, who she says, will be most welcome, will receive a free Kellogg's bag with toys.
Entry forms and Sponsorship forms are available at the Athletic Club.
Bermuda's Largest Aerobics Class springs into action this Saturday, September 23, on the BAA Field, commencing at 9.30 a.m. Registration takes place at 8.45 a.m. and, in the case of rain, will move indoors into the Gym.
