Classic cyclists donate to the Sunshine League
Classic motorbikes and a few others that were also impressive beasts of the road but not quite so vintage, created a travelling cavalcade of colour and shiny chrome during a tour of the Island yesterday to support disadvantaged children.
Before they hit the road the bikers presented a $1,270 cheque to the Sunshine League?s Kathleen Faries to help fund the work it does looking after displaced children.
She told the : ?We care for children between the ages of eight and 16 who are displaced from their homes for a variety of reasons. The Sunshine League has been going since 1919 and we normally care for between ten and 12 kids at any one time.?
Some of the money raised by the Bermuda Classic Bike Club, which was presented by club president Victor Da Silva, will be used for a festive party for the children.
The bike club was founded 20 years ago and has made the Sunshine League its favoured cause for many years.
Every December the club organises an open-to-all tour of the Island stopping at various spots including Dockyard and St. George?s.
This year around 30 bikes, the oldest a 1952 ?James? model, set out from Hamilton City Hall for the day-long ride which ended with a meal at MR Onions in Par-la-Ville Road.
