Commercial strugglers in goal feast
their first league wins at the bottom of the Commercial Division groups A and B, but did so in spectacular fashion.
Forties, with just one point and seven goals from their previous eight league matches, exploded against Spinning Wheel for a 7-5 victory as Kevin Poole scored a hat-trick and Phil Heaney netted twice. Brian Fubler and Andrew McDowell got the others.
For mid-table Spinning Wheel, Des Minors and Keith Bell each netted twice and Stevie Tucker the other.
Somerset Extros, without a win in Group B, also hammered in the goals as they blasted eight-man Fire Service 8-2 with Lew Simmons and Lloyd Simmons both scoring twice and Craig Brangman also getting among the goals.
Kenny Ford and Aaron Dankins scored for Fire Service who netted first only to see Extros run up a 4-1 lead by the half. Fire Service's second effort was only a consolation goal as the Extros had already extended their lead to 8-1.
BAA Wanderers, leaders of Group A, had to come from behind twice to deny St.
George's All-Stars victory at Wellington Oval. The home team took the lead through Cal Rayner before BAA drew level before the half.
Sinclair Smith then scored a gem of a second goal for the All-Stars when he got into a one-on-one situation with the goalkeeper and converted easily after his dummy committed the 'keeper. But Andy McCulloch and Stuart Drake replied for BAA who extended their lead to four points after second-placed Robin Hood went down 3-1 to Island Rangers.
Rangers, who led 3-0 at the half, enjoyed a bright start when Troy Berkeley, Michael Bremar and Theron Smith all scored inside the first half hour. Alex McLaughlin netted in the second half for Robin Hood who also missed a penalty through Jar McCabe. The win lifted Rangers into second place.
Mariners, with a game in hand, closed the gap in fourth place when they made Devonshire Colts All-Stars pay the price for fielding only eight men. The 7-0 rout was made possible by two goals each from Joe Barboza, Craig Dixon and Frank Massaflor and one from Gil Rodrigues.
In Group B, Wolves beat Prison Officers 5-2 with Mickey Robinson scoring twice and Gary Burgess, Gary Peniston and Vince Minors adding the others. Mike Lambe and Reggie Pitcher replied for Officers.
Belco picked up their second straight win when they edged by Devonshire Lions 5-4 at Devonshire Rec. where Gary Bascome's hat-trick for Lions proved futile.
Donald Norford scored the other for Lions while Kent Burgess scored a hat-trick for Belco and Kacy Butterfield two.
Exiles beat Valley 2-0 with Shawn Smith and Kevin Isaac scoring for the winners.
