Sorority's Reading Festival to be held Saturday
The Annual Children's Reading Festival held by Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated has come around again and this year promises to be just as action packed and fun filled as the ones in the past.
The festival will be held this Saturday, in Victoria Park from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.
This event, which is in it's eighth year, is infamous for preparing and motivating children to read by delivering free books and literacy resources to children and families in Bermuda.
President of the Bermuda Alumnae Chapter, Andrea Daniels said: "This free event targets newborns to primary school aged children.
"Delta Sigma Theta's effort is rooted in the idea that in order to ensure that children can read, it is vital to ensure that they want to read by shaping new generations of willing and eager readers.
"Our thrust is to remind children and families that reading is fun!"
Since 1999, the Children's Reading Festival adds up to be Bermuda's largest and grandest literary event.
One of the festival organisers, Denise Riviere said: "As a little Island country, we must continue to address the issues of never forgetting that a lifelong bond to books is made not only through instruction, but through he personal connection we make to the inherent joy of reading.
"By giving a complimentary book to each child, we aim to help start a collection, or add to and existing library. This idea is at the heart of this annual project.
All are encouraged to attend this event that will have free music, face painting, fun castles, creative art stations and reading.
