Two boys were robbed by a knife-wielding thug at a bus stop in Southampton late on Sunday afternoon.

The 11-year-old and 12-year-old had finished their grocery packing shift at Heron Bay MarketPlace when they were approached by the man who demanded money.

When they refused the mugger brandished a knife and one of the boys handed over $7. The suspected is slim, dark-skinned, around six foot, two inches tall with short hair and is in his late teens or early twenties. He had a scar on his right cheek, a circular birth mark on the left side of his face and a light moustache. Witnesses should call Somerset CID on 234 1010.

Tourist robbed near Southampton Rangers

An American tourist was attacked by a robber after leaving a Southampton restaurant. The man, with his wife at the time, was targeted on South Road.

Bermuda Police said as the couple passed the Southampton Rangers? sports ground, the man was struck on the back of the head.

The 48-year-old fell to the floor and started struggling with his attacker. The victim?s wife, 47, tried to help before passing motorists stopped and the suspect fled on foot. The incident happened at 8.30 p.m. on Saturday. Police said they know the suspect. Witnesses should call Somerset Criminal Investigation Unit on 234-1010.

Men attacked on Court Street

Police are investigating reports of a crash helmet attack on Court Street. Two men claim they were assaulted by a gang on Saturday. One of the victims, a 43-year-old from Pembroke, said his attackers struck him on the head and body with motorcycle helmets.

The other victim, a 42-year-old Devonshire man, said he tried to intervene. The gang escaped towards Middletown. Both men were treated for face injuries before being released.

The Devonshire man had his watch and gold chain stolen during the violence. Police said that there were several people in the area at about 3.15 a.m., but refused to help officers.

Newlywed denies attacking wife

A man who has only been married for eight days was charged with depriving his wife of her liberty and assaulting her.

The Pembroke man said he was doing the right thing because his wife was trying to commit suicide and he would not let her do it.

The 25-year-old said their brief marriage is one of convenience. When Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner asked if he was forced into the marriage he simply answered: ?She?s a beautiful woman.?

He said his wife has attempted to commit suicide before and that on November 22 she tried to again after he said he wanted a divorce.

He will return for trial next Tuesday and was released on $5000 bail with one surety. He was told that he was not to make any contact with his wife before the trial.

Student gets court date changed

A young man bound for university will have to appear in Magistrates? Court and answer to charges of assaulting a police officer before he can start the next stage of his education.

George Chayce Smith, who is 18 years old, denies that he assaulted an officer on November 6.

Smith, of Friswell?s Road, Devonshire, also plead not guilty to violently resisting arrest and obstructing an officer. Smith also denied saying: ?Do not f**king touch me you f**king pigs.?

His trial date was originally scheduled for February 22 but it was moved to December 28 because he will be abroad at school.

When Smith said he would be abroad in school, Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner interjected: ?Or in Westgate (Correctional Facility on remand) because these are serious charges.?

Smith was released on $2000 bail and required to get one surety.
