Leaders Onions let points slip
Commercial League leaders MR Onions dropped two points at the weekend to lowly Tuff Dogs but still retain a healthy lead over second-placed Dandy Town Roots who could also only take a point against North Village Rams.
Tuff Dogs continued their recent good run of form with a battling draw against Onions.
In a first-half of few chances, Dogs took the lead when a well-struck free-kick was only parried by the Onions' keeper and Tristan Obend finished from close range.
Onions struggled to break down a resolute back line in an even first-half but should have equalised shortly afterwards - the league's top scorer Keane blazing wide from a few yards out.
The second-half saw Onions begin to dominate possession, but still unable to create clear cut scoring chances – until, with 15 minutes remaining, Eoghan O'Dwyer netted a disputed equaliser.
Onions are seven points ahead but face a tough run-in with ties against Dandy Town, Key West and North Village plus an improving Lobster Pot.
Meanwhile Dandy Town Roots drew 3-3 with North Village Rams.
Former national team player Kentoine Jennings got two for Rams with Damon Wade also notching but a brace from Mark Trott and one from Darron Simons gave Roots a point.
A severely depleted BAA battled gamely but were beaten by a strong Robin Hood team on Saturday. Ten minutes before kick-off it looked unlikely BAA would be able to field a team but with several injured players putting their bodies on the line they managed to field 11 players. Playing with a strong wind in the first half BAA looked comfortable without overly troubling the Robin Hood rearguard and the first half ended 0-0.
The Hood had the advantage of the wind in the second half, but BAA stood firm and looked like they might snatch an improbable point.
However an Adam Shaw mistake gifted the ball to Derek Stapley who played a dangerous ball into the area which ended in Teddy Terceira scoring the first goal. Robin Hood continued to push forward and it was no surprise when David Outerbridge finished off a fine passing move to finish the game off.
Lobster Pot drew 1-1 with Key West. Veteran Welshman Colin James finished from close range midway through the first-half. Key West equalised soon after the break when Sergio Griffin headed home a flick-on from a corner.
Pot had the better chances to seal the victory but at the end had to settle for the point.
Somerset Extros picked up their second win of the season after two Mike Corday goals helped them to a 2-1 victory over Valley.
In Division B Group One PHC are racing toward a possible promotion play-off after beating St. David's 2-1. St. George's All-Stars are also in the hunt after edging out Vasco Mariners 2-1 - thanks to a pair of goals from Stevie Dickinson on either side of the half after Helder Carreiro had given visiting Vasco and early lead.
Hamilton Parish hammered Somerset Bridge 9-1. Jade Burgess got a hat-trick while Ray and Jermaine Outerbridge, Sean Dill, Fabio Coelho, Irving Burgess and Shannon Warner all grabbed a piece of the glory.
In Division B Group Two Prospect/Fire are also racing towards an end of season play-off after beating Pest Control 4-2. Kingsley Mundy got a hat-trick and Justin Robinson one after a Jamie Matthews brace had Pest Control ahead at half-time.
Second-placed Devonshire Rec. Lions could only manage a 1-1 draw against Dockyard Falcons. Clifton Anderson put the west enders ahead before half-time but Dwayne (Liquid) Bean leveled for the home side with 30 minutes remaining.
After waiting two years for a league win MR Onions Real Men made it two on the bounce with a 3-2 victory over Wolves. Onions were coasting by half-time after a long-range Gary Garnett goal was followed by a tidy finish by Michael Baker.
But Wolves substitute Horace Landy caught Onions napping by racing away to score two quick goals straight after the break.
A nimble finish from sub Joe Roberts who spotted the goalie off his line helped Onions grab all three points in the dying minutes.
