Freddy Hall, the Bermuda goalkeeper, remains hopeful of securing a permanent deal at Burton Albion as the Sky Bet League Two side prepare for the promotion play-offs.

Hall has been with the club for a month after being released by Major League Soccer team Toronto FC in December 2012, but has yet to make a first team appearance for them

First choice Dean Lyness, who was in goal for the side’s 2-0 home defeat to league leaders Chesterfield, and Robert Lainton, on loan from Bury, whose spell at Albion comes to an end after Saturday’s match, are the preferred goalkeepers, leaving Hall to wait patiently for his chance. It is not yet known whether the club will extend Lainton’s loan deal for the play-offs.

Although the chance to showcase his talent is yet to materialise, the 6ft 2in Hall is confident of securing a contract at the end of the season.

“I wouldn’t mind staying here at all,” Hall said. “It’s a good group of guys and a nice set up.

“I’m enjoying it for sure, but we will see what happens, and if we can all find a common ground as talks take place. Things are going well, working hard daily, back to full fitness and in goalkeeper shape.

“I was always in good shape, I just wasn’t in goalkeeper shape and being out of the professional game for a over a year really showed. But it’s back to normal and things are looking very positive right now.”

The 29-year-old, who made three appearances for Northampton Town during the 2011-12 season, returned to England last November in the hopes of resurrecting his stuttering career at a new club.

But, with no takers for his services during the January transfer window, he returned home and had a brief coaching stint at St George’s as they pursued promotion to the Premier Division. Coaching gave Hall a broader perspective on the game, but returning to professional football was always his main priority.

“It feels good to be back training daily and back in the professional game,” Hall said. “I missed it a lot especially after the NatWest Island Games [in 2013], but I got the appetite back and I guess you can say I was hungry to play again.

“Coaching St George’s was fun, it gives you a different perspective of the game. I truly enjoyed it and I am glad they are back up in the top division for next season.”

Burton end the regular season at Southend United on Saturday, who hold down the final play-off spot.
