National Academy response ‘encouraging’

Bermuda Football Association National Academy (BFANA) director Richard Todd said he was pleased with the response of youth players who attended the two age groups trials recently.

The Under-14 girls and 2002 boys trials were well attended with 42 females and 65 males stepping onto BFA Field looking to make the grade in their respective group.

“There is enthusiasm and a sense of national pride developing with regards to players wanting to be a part of the National Academy programme,” said Todd.

“The intake groups are very important as they allow us to begin the process of developing the foundation of the National Academy programme and national teams for the future.

“The talent level exhibited continues to hold promise in the rise of both boys and girls Bermuda, and the National Academy staff is excited to begin working in earnest with the players.”

Following the trials, Todd and the BFANA staff identified players who they feel are worthy of an invitation to the programme with an informational meeting with the players and parents of the Under-14 girls taking place shortly after the trials ended.

The Under-14 girls were put through their paces by women’s national team coach Naquita Robinson.

Any parent whose child participated in the BFANA camp, but were unable to attend the respective meetings for the two sides, are asked to contact the NA Director at rtodd@bermudafootball.com.

E-mail correspondence will be sent to the contact information provided on the registration forms to notify the parents of the players who will be offered an invitation to the programme.

Correspondence began to be sent on Friday and all players who attended and provided valid contact information will be contacted to notify of the results.

Training will begin on November 22 from 5.30pm to 7pm at BFA Field.
