New documentary 'Riddle of the Crest' to be previewed at Bermuda Docs Film Festival
A documentary film produced by Bermuda's LookTV, 'Riddle of the Crest', is to get a sneak preview at the Bermuda Docs Film Festival.
The new festival will screen six top documentary feature films from around the world on Saturday in the Tradewinds Auditorium at the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute. Screenings begin at 11 a.m. and continue throughout the day.
A three-minute trailer of 'Riddle of the Crest' will open the festival, screening before the feature length documentary, 'Cat Ladies', at 11 a.m and before 'The Yes Men Fix the World' at 7 p.m., and 'RiseUp: Stories from Jamaica's Music Underground', at 9 p.m. The LookTV film will be launched in the next few weeks as a 30-minute documentary.
The film explores the identity of the ship depicted foundering on rocks on Bermuda's coat-of-arms. Dr. Philippe Rouja, Bermuda's Custodian of Historic Wrecks, is featured along with Bill Gillies, Dr. Steve Blasco, Teddy Tucker and Dr. Edward Harris. The film challenges the common assumption that the crest depicts the Sea Venture that foundered off Bermuda in 1609.
"We are delighted to be taking part in the first Bermuda Docs," said Jean-Pierre Rouja, managing director at LookTV. "We are sometimes overlooked when people discuss the local filmmaking community, but we have produced dozens of short films over the past five years and this film is one of several longer form documentaries that we will be releasing in the next few months."
Festival director Duncan Hall said: "Having a local film in the first Bermuda Docs is a welcome surprise. Naturally, filmmakers with projects in production have traditionally looked towards BIFF in March.
But LookTV has projects on the go year-round, and so we are able to screen one of their films as a sneak preview."
Tickets to Bermuda Docs, sponsored by Mini, are $15 and are on sale now online at www.bdatix.bm, in person at the iStore, 46 Reid Street, Hamilton, and at Fabulous Fashions (formerly Picture Perfect), Heron Bay Plaza, Southampton, or by telephone (232-2255).
