St. David's and St. George's set up 20/20 showdown

Police Recreation Club, Somerset Cricket Club, St. David's and St.George's all won their opening two fixtures of the inaugural 20/20 cricket tournament over the weekend as they looked to book their places in the semi-finals.

St. David's and St. George's are joint leaders in the Eastern zone after both triumphed over Bailey's Bay and Cleveland County to set up a showdown at Lord's this weekend.

Police, who defeated Flatts Victoria and Young Men's Social Club, are in the driver's seat in the East Central zone, while Somerset beat Willow Cuts and Somerset Bridge in the Western zone.

In the east, St. David's beat Cleveland County by eight wickets at Lord's after Cleveland batted first.

Cleveland won the toss and elected to bat with Jason Simons scoring 36 in the team's total of 110 for five in their 20 overs. National team player Lionel Cann, better known for his explosive bat, snapped up two wickets for 18.

In reply, Chris Foggo scored 67 as St. David's reached 112. Tamuari Tucker took one for 15.

On Saturday, St. David's won by just one run as they posted 124 for seven against arch rivals Bay. Delyone Borden scored 44 while Reid Trott recorded bowling figures of two for 16.

In reply, Bay fell agonisingly close, posting 123 for five with Marvin Trott the top scorer with 35. Del Hollis had impressive figures of three for 28.

St. George's won by four wickets against Bay, also at Lord's, on Sunday.

Bay managed 91 for nine with Glenn Blakeney scoring 21after his side batted first. Gregg Foggo had bowling figures of three for 16.

In reply, St. George's made 92 for six. Kyle Hodsoll led their batting with an unbeaten 24 while Rodney Trott took three for 13 for Bay.

St. George's won by seven runs against Cleveland on Saturday after reaching 137 in 20 overs. St. George's batted first with Orande Bascome smashing 53. Charles Richardson took two for 11.

Cleveland's bats put up a fight, scoring 130 as Dennis Musson hit a valuable 38. Ryan Steede took four for 30 for St. George's.

In the Western zone, Somerset made 129 from their 20 overs while Willow Cuts fell 18 short, posting 111.

On Saturday, Somerset won by a massive 146 after batting first and scoring 209 for six. Azeem Pitcher top scored with 75.

In reply, Somerset Bridge could only muster a meagre 63 with Kirk Simons and Adrian Burrows both scoring 12. Jordan DeSilva took four for 16 in four overs.

At the National Sports Centre on Sunday, Police defeated Flatts by six wickets. Flatts batted first and recorded 132 for seven with youngster Regino Smith scoring 51. Delroy Tucker and Anderson Cumberbatch each took three wickets.

Police crossed Flatts total with overs to spare, scoring 135 for four. Garvin Aparicio and Dennis Archer both made 44 while Vernon Eve had the best figures of two for 12.

On Saturday, Police won by five wickets over Young Men's Social Club.

Social Club set a target of 120 for six as Kevin Hurdle stroked 50. Delroy Taylor claimed one for six for Police.

In reply, Police reached 124 for five, James Celestine top scoring with 49 while Nelson Bascome jr. took two for 18.

East Central Zone

In the remaining East Central zone games on Sunday, Social Club beat Devonshire Rec. by 49 runs at the NSC. Social Club batted first and posted 182 for six and again Hurdle led their batting with 54. Jodi Maroni took two for 23.

Devonshire could only manage 133 for six in their 20 overs. Ricardo Brangman banged 85 while Charlie Marshall snapped up two for 14.

On Saturday, Flatts won by 12 against Devonshire Rec. as they made 152 for seven.

Flatts were led by Ronald Gibbons who hit 53. Orlando Fredericks took three for 29 for Rec.

Devonshire came up short as they made140 for nine. Steven Bremar top scored with 52. Troy Bean grabbed four for 29 for Flatts.

West Central Zone

At Southampton Oval on Sunday, PHC won by five wickets over Warwick Workmen's Club.

Warwick finished on148 for six as Sammy Robinson hit an unbeaten 64. David Adams was the pick of the PHC bowlers with one for 22.

PHC made 150 for five, Jason Anderson hammering 50. Joshua Butler returned two for 17.

At the same venue on Sunday, Leg Trappers won by four wickets over Western Stars, who made 148 for six. Justin Robinson top scored for Stars with 37.

Bilal Izat returned figures of two for 25 for Trappers.

Trappers finished on 149 for six in reply, former national team player Saleem Mukuddem making 47. Robinson took one for 22.

Western Zone

Southampton Rangers won by 60 against Somerset Bridge after posting a formidable total of 166 for five.

Dion Stovell had a good day with both bat and ball, first scoring 54 with Andrew Raynor also grabbing a half-century in 20 overs. Noel Woods took three for 32.

Cofield Robinson led Bridge with 30 as they scored 106 in their 20 overs. Stovell returned figures of three for eight.

On Saturday, Cuts won by three wickets over Rangers.

Rangers, who batted first, made 116 for six in 20 overs as Stovell hammered 65. Bergon Spencer was the pick of the Cuts bowlers with three for 14.

In reply, Sheroy Fubler scored 39 as Cuts crossed Rangers' total with three wickets in hand. Ryan Belboda was Rangers best bowler with four for eight.
