Oleander takes over Dowling Cycles

Oleander Cycles now has seven cycle livery locations across the Island with the opening of a St. George's operation on the site of the former Dowling Cycles.

Oleander general manager Geoffrey Gibbons said the company had acquired the assets of Dowling Cycles Limited in April, 2002.

In the interim the St. George's location, on the Duke of York Street, has been renovated to provide for both rental and retail customers in the East End.

Former owner of Dowling Cycles, Henry Dowling, has been kept on as a consultant for a period of three years.

The company also reported that it has renovated its Hamilton location on Gorham Road: "A new facade adds to the contemporary look featured with the ACE and XL buildings."

In addition to its rental operation - with a fleet of 1,200 scooters - Oleander Cycles, which was started by John Leseur in 1957, also operates two trolley trains through its wholly owned subsidiary, the Bermuda Train Company.

The trolley trains offer visitors and locals the opportunity to take tours through Hamilton, Dockyard and Somerset Village.
