Humiliating defeat for top of table Bay
Police 133
Bailey's Bay 94
Nine-man Police took First Division leaders Bailey's Bay prisoner at Police Field, handing the Sea Breeze Oval squad a humiliating 39-run defeat at Police Field.
Despite the setback Bay, however, hold on to first place since second place Devonshire Rec. were idle after their away game against Social Club was not played.
The man responsible for Police's triumph was skipper Dennis Archer who finished with the astonishing bowling figures of six wickets for 12 runs off ten overs with two maidens - these heroics being preceded by a spirited 36 with the bat that led his team in scoring.
Batting first, Police crept to a modest 133 with Terry Thomas and Daniel Reece joining Archer in double figures with 22 runs apiece. Dennis Pilgrim was the top bowler for Bay with three wickets for 38 runs off 8.5 overs.
Bay, playing without Stephen Outerbridge who was sick, succumbed for 94 off 23.5 overs with only Jermaine Warner and Corey Hill offering any resistance - Warner scoring 30 and Hill 29.
Joining Archer in the bowling wreckage was Ozzie Hinds who took two for 16 off 3.5 overs.
Somerset Bridge 86
Flatts 87-1
Chris Caisey snatched six wickets for a mere 18 runs and Phillip Burgess hammered 51 not out to lead Flatts to this nine-wicket triumph over Somerset Bridge at Sea Breeze Oval yesterday.
With Caisey virtually unplayable, Bridge batsmen struggled with only Clifford Simmons and skipper Dean Stephens offering any resistance, Simmons topping their scorers with 41 while Stephens followed on 25.
But with medium pacer Caisey in dominating form the Bridge never looked capable of reaching the three figure mark, their demise coming after 22.2 overs.
Caisey taking his haul off ten overs with one maiden, while spinner Lloyd Fray claimed three wickets for 49 runs off ten overs with one maiden.
The other wicket-taker for Flatts was Derek Wright who claimed his prize for 13 runs off 1.2 overs.
Flatts coasted to victory, reaching their target off 13 overs with Phillip Burgess and Vernon Eve putting on 76 for the second wicket. Burgess remained undefeated on 51 when victory was reached, while Eve was not out on 25. The lone wicket lost was that of opener Fray for a duck.
Denzil Dill got the only wicket at a cost of 15 runs, he had five overs and a maiden.
The other game scheduled between Warwick and Leg Trappers, scheduled for Southampton Oval, was not played because the pitch was not prepared.
