Tempers show as MR Onions edge it over Robin Hood
Table-toppers MR Onions are seven points clear after beating nearest rivals Robin Hood 3-2 at the weekend.
Onions edged past Robin Hood in a game which was at times bad tempered and saw little attractive football on a difficult BAA pitch.
Despite the Hood having the better of the first half possession, Onions took the lead when Nigel Forrester volleyed home a corner from close range shortly before half time.
With chances continuing to be at a premium in the second half, Robin Hood equalised with a Kenny Dill penalty following a handball in the box. Onions regained the lead, Forrester again pouncing after defensive uncertainty by the Hood.
And the visitors thought they'd killed the game off when Matt Ashfold finished emphatically following good work from Billy Shanahan.
However, the Hood were gifted a lifeline with two minutes remaining when a scuffed David Outerbridge shot trickled over the goal line.
That set up a rousing finale, in which the Hood came close to an equaliser, but the Onions' defence managed to stand firm.
Dandy Town Roots are second after brushing aside Valley at Malabar. Roots took the lead when Darron Simons maneuvered his way through the Valley defence down the left flank and crossed perfectly for Adam Outerbride to head home.
Before Valley could respond, Roots doubled their lead when Simons flicked on a corner at the near post to Kevin Hurdle to nod in. Hurdle put Roots three up at the break when he headed in another cross from Simons. Valley had chances but good goalkeeping by Antoine Tuzo kept Valley at bay.
Hurdle completed his hat-trick from the penalty spot after the unstoppable Simons was upended in the box. Philip Lawrence completed the rout when he smashed the ball home when Valley failed to clear from a corner.
Key West Rangers got back to winning ways with a 4-0 win over Somerset Extros. Long term injuries have put Rangers at the wrong end of the table but Paul Towlson and Jamal Mills returned to the side on Saturday to add much needed bite.
Jenson Bascome got the first for Rangers while Armell Thomas scored a 10-minute hat-trick after coming on after 70 minutes.
Lobster Pot and BAA Wanderers ground out a 0-0 draw with BAA having the majority of the possession with the Pot looking more dangerous going forward but neither keeper had too much to do.
Tuff Dogs held North Village Rams 1-1 with Jamal Lovell putting dogs ahead in the 37th minute only for a Kentoine Jennings penalty to even things up two minutes later.
In the Commercial B Group One St. David's made the most of their chances to beat a wasteful Vasco 4-1. Sean Boddington (two), Rudell Pitcher and Dennis DeRosa scored for St. David's while Elsworth Wainwright was on target for Vasco who also missed a penalty.
A single Lloyd Telford strike five minutes before the break gave Somerset Bridge three points against Boulevard while the St. George's All-Stars game against Hamilton Parish was postponed.
In Commercial B Group Two a rampant Prospect/Fire steamrollered Dockyard Falcons. Alvin Baker grabbed a hat-trick, Justin Robinson got two while Robert Williams and Kingsley Mundy also notched while Gary Trott got a second-half consolation for Falcons.
Devonshire All-Stars beat MR Onions Real Men 2-1. Onions scored first with a delightful long-range strike at an acute angle from Andy Robinson.
But winger Herman DeShields Jr got around the back of the Onions defence to equalise while Stefan Dupres struck from distance to give All-Stars the double over Onions.
Pest Control threw away a three goal lead to a resurgent Wolves at Shelly Bay and went down 5-4. Pest Control started well and thought they had the game firmly under control through a Donte Foley goal and a Shane Hollis brace.
Wolves hit back just before half time to keep things interesting and stormed out after the break, dominating the half and scoring a further two goals to level things up before stunning Pest Control with a fourth.
Pest levelled it up in the closing minutes through a Mike O'Brian header only for Wolves to respond with their fifth, and game winner seconds from time.
