Corless compiles perfect record

The J105 fleet crosses the start line in Saturday's RHADC Fall Regatta. From left, John Corless's Mayhem, which won each of the day's three J105 races, James MacDonald's Passion, and Chuck Millican's Elusive.

A westerly breeze provided plenty of windshifts and squalls on Saturday as sailors in three fleets competed in the Royal Hamilton Amateur Dinghy Club's Fall Regatta.

Jon Corless, steering Mayhem, easily dominated the J105 fleet, after an aborted first start that saw all three boats crossing the line too early.

He sailed to three first place finishes, leaving his two rivals, Chuck Millican aboard Elusive and James Macdonald's Passion, to fight their own private battles.

In the International One Design Fleet, the top two spots alternated between Penny Simmons aboard Ariel, and Craig Davis on Vrengen. Simmons came out ahead with two firsts and a second, while Davis had one first and two seconds.

But the IOD racing was very close. Patrick Cooper's Salina II was often barking at the heels of the leaders, and finished the day with a trio of thirds.

Pete Ramsdale, aboard Sadiiqi, took J24 honours without winning a single race.

Trevor Boyce's New Wave, young Lance Fraser with his teen team aboard SpoRHADIC, and Tim Lynch on Erin each managed to come first in a single race.

But Ramsdale's steady series of second place finishes produced better overall results.
