Great Lite Open co-ed volleyball tournament on Saturday at Shelly Bay field.
Baker and Toavs scored seven unanswered points in the third and deciding game, after being behind 9-4, to defeat defending champions Wendy Cummings and Mark Bell.
The competition was divided into A and B divisions with teams playing each other in their division and the two teams with the best record advancing to tournament play. Pool play in the A Division was cut short when Andrew Soares suffered a knee injury in the early going of his second match, causing him and partner Lisa Dragon to forfeit their last two matches.
In the B Division, Mark Hamilton scored five straight points off his `moon ball' serve in the third and deciding match before going on to defeat Michelle Field and Scott Suddaby 11-8. Field and Suddaby had beaten Hamilton and his partner two out of three during pool play and won the first game of the final but could not continue their momentum to capture the B Division title.
Future tournaments are scheduled for October 16 (Shelly Bay, men's and women's divisions) and October 30 (Shelly Bay, co-ed).
