Coach hails Beach as Hornets’ trump card
Dandy Town coach Jomar Wilkinson has hailed Raymond Beach as his side’s “number one leader” as he prepares to unleash the striker on North Village in the Dudley Eve semi-final at the weekend.Beach, who was crowned the Digicel Premier Division Most Valuable Player at the Bermuda Football Association’s recent awards ceremony, has rarely featured for Hornets this season due to family commitments. But the former Bermuda international is set for a timely return to action in Hornets’ cup clash against a stuttering Village on Sunday, and could form a potentially lethal partnership with in-form striker Angelo Simmons.“We have the compliments of Raymond Beach back in the line-up and he will help us go from strength to strength now he’s available again,” said Wilkinson.“Angelo has been doing some special things for us this season but Raymond is our leader, our number one leader; he leads our group and is irreplaceable.“He’s coming in at the right time, he’s hungry for it and he’s ready to go.”Hornets, who won the Premier Division, FA Cup and Dudley Eve, made a slow to start to the season but moved to within one point of leaders PHC following their recent home win over Flanagan’s Onions.Beach, Town’s top scorer last term, doesn’t expect to walk straight back into Town’s line-up but insists he’s ready if called upon.“I’ve been at home on the couch taking it easy, taking a break, but I have been training a bit,” he said. “We’ve had some good young guys come in and they’ve been playing well. For me it’s a 25-man squad that makes it happen. The team has been doing well without me so I probably couldn’t get back in right now.”In Village, Hornets face a side that have struggled having lost several key players this season, although Wilkinson insists his team will not be taking Shaun Goater’s men lightly.“This season didn’t start off the way we wanted it to, but we’ve been through our trials and tribulations and I feel we’re heading in the right direction,” said Wilkinson, who was named the top-flight’s Coach of the Year for the 2011-12 season.“Hopefully we can find that form that we had last season and have some success this season as well.”He added: “North Village’s previous results haven’t been so good but they’re a special team and know how to win.“We’re looking forward to the challenge against Village who are an exceptional organisation and we will not be taking them lightly.“We’ve had a few good results lately and we’re going to try and run with that momentum and see if we can improve on our performances.”The Dudley Eve semi-finals see Hornets take on Village at St David’s at 12pm, and Somerset Trojans play St George’s at 2.30pm.Both games will be held at Lords in St David’s.
