King to learn about Bermuda history, nature during Royal Visit
King Charles III will get a flavour of Bermudian culture, nature and history after his arrival on the island this month.
Government House stated that the visit from April 30 to May 2 will mark King Charles’s first official trip as Sovereign to a British Overseas Territory.
A statement said: “The King’s programme will showcase the very best of Bermuda and provide many opportunities to engage with communities across the island.”
The welcome ceremony for King Charles will include a Guard of Honour mounted by the Royal Bermuda Regiment and a 21-gun salute.
King Charles will meet young people and learn about the restoration of native flora and fauna during a Bermuda Zoological Society’s living classroom session, and engage with Bermudians from different creative backgrounds in Hamilton.
He will also meet with representatives from local youth organisations and athletes representing Bermuda in this year’s Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
The schedule includes viewing a museum exhibit that explores Bermuda’s connection to the Atlantic Slave Trade.
The statement said: “Before concluding His Majesty’s visit, The King will formally open the new Great Bay coastguard station and hear from coastguard personnel about their operations to provide safety around the island and about their work tackling illegal maritime activity.
“King Charles will also meet representatives from the UK Space Agency to hear about plans to install a new telescope site in Bermuda as part of global efforts to track space debris, supporting international space sustainability.”
