Driver taken off the road
Shalem Charles, 29, of South Road, pleaded guilty to the charge in Magistrates' Court.
Crown counsel Charmaine Smith told the court that Police saw Charles riding his auxiliary cycle south along Burnaby Street on November 30.
They pursued him when they noticed him cross Reid Street without stopping.
Charles was stopped by Police at the junction of Burnaby and Front streets.
They noticed that he was unsteady on his cycle, his breath smelled of intoxicants, and that his speech was slurred.
When asked if he had been drinking, he replied: "Yes, officers, I had two drinks.'' He was taken to Hamilton Police Station. A breath test showed that he had 147 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood. The legal limit is 80 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood.
Acting Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner fined Charles $400 and banned him from driving all motor vehicles for 12 months.
