Lopes drafted in after Smith injury
Top junior rider Tyler Lopes has been drafted in to replace Jaeda Smith to compete later this month at the Caribbean Equestrian Association's Junior Jumping Competition in Jamaica.
Smith was injured this week in a Bermuda Football Association Academy training session where she plays goalkeeper.
Lopes will join Katie Moniz on the trip to Jamaica on November 20.
Moniz will compete in the 16 & Under division while Lopes will jump in the 14 & Under division.
Despite his young age, Lopes has previously represented Bermuda abroad.
Last month he won the freestyle test at the Children of the Americas Dressage Invitational in the US with a score of 76.608 percent and placed second overall.
Held in Concord, Massachusetts, the competition took place over three days. Lopes also placed second with a score of 70 percent in the FEI Children's Preliminary Test and he was voted by his fellow competitors to ride the adult freestyle event.
That was the third time Lopes was selected to represent Bermuda at the Invitational meet.
Earlier this year Lopes and his pony Playboy beat out 34 other riders from Haiti, Cayman Islands, Jamaica, Trinidad and Barbados to win Group X of the FEI World Dressage Challenge after international judges had completed their tour of the six islands in World Group X.
Lopes has also previously competed for Bermuda in the CEA Jumping Competition.
