'Don't put me on the stop list'

A 22-year-old pleaded with Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo yesterday in Magistrates’ Court not to be placed on the stop list — effectively stopping him from travelling abroad.

Maurico Bradshaw of Malabar Road, Sandys, pleaded guilty to possessing .4gm of cannabis and was concerned his sentence would place him on the stop list.

Bradshaw, a delivery person for DHL, said: “I am saving to go to school and I hope I don’t get put on the stop list and mess up my future plans.”

Mr. Tokunbo asked: “Why didn’t you think about that before?”

Bradshaw said: “I haven’t been smoking it since the New Year.”

Crown counsel Carrington Mahoney told the court Police arrested Bradshaw on October 2, 2006 on Middle Road, Paget for driving without a licence.

He was transported to the Hamilton Police Station and they found a plastic bag with plant-like material on Bradshaw which, upon examination, was .4gms of cannabis.

Because he does not have any prior convictions, Mr. Tokunbo released Bradshaw on a 12 month conditional probation. He was not put on the stop list - a list of people who have serious convictions which have to be declared when travelling abroad.

Bradshaw also had to answer to three charges of driving without a driver’s licence.

Including being stopped on October 2, Bradshaw was also caught driving without the proper licence for his bike on July 21and September 9, 2006.

He pleaded guilty to all three charges and Mr. Tokunbo fined him $300 and disqualified him from attaining a licence for motorcycles or motor vehicles for six months.
