Wolves thrash Peppers to stay clear at the top

Wolves maintained their five-point lead over second-placed Flanagan’s with a convincing 5-1 win over Hamilton Parish on Sunday at Devonshire Rec.The result, one of many lopsided scores on the day in the First Division, was far from what many expected given Parish recently won the Shield competition.A brace from Troy Tucker and solo strikes from Sergio Richardson, Lamelle Paynter, and Vincent Minors jr were more than enough to grab the emphatic victory, with Rodney Trott scoring for Peppers.“It was very important to get a good result like we did against Peppers,” said midfielder Jared Peniston. “It was important because we had to show and send a message to our critics that Wolves aren’t going to choke after the Christmas break like we have in the past.“Promotion is very important to us and our fans so we just need to stay focus and play our game.”Wolves, who have played a game more than their rivals, haven’t lost a game this season, with some believing they can go the entire season undefeated.Peniston, however, reckoned that the race has only just begun.“Having played a game more and having a five-point gap on the pack doesn’t mean nothing exciting right now apart from being on top. Wolves are worrying about promotion and every game is important.“To us every game is like a cup final. We want play Premier Division football against teams like Town, Village, PHC and so on and we have the talent to compete.“Honestly, the way we beat Peppers was kind of a surprise because Peppers kept their college students for the game plus they have a few experience players and they just finish winning the Shield Cup, so they were on a high.“Congratulations to Peppers on winning the Shield back to back but on this day the best team won.”Also putting up big numbers on the day was Keston Lewis and second-placed Flanagan’s, who thrashed Paget 8-0 at White Hill Field.Lewis scored a hat-trick, while Darren Doolin scored twice, and Fabien Benito, Phil Matthews and Reginald Walcott were all on target as they kept the pressure on the leaders who have played a game more than Onions.Third placed X’Roads got the better of Devonshire Colts, beating them 3-1 at Police Field.Dennis Musson jr, Khomeini Talbot and Uthmani Talbot scored for the visitors, cancelling out Lozendro Symonds’ early strike for Colts.Diego McCallan scored six times to help BAA thump Ireland Rangers 14-0 at BAA Field.Ian Simmons scored a hat-trick, while single strikes from Zeon Robinson, Vance Hill, London Roberts, Ramar Simmons and Fabio Pacheco completed the rout.Somerset Eagles got a goal from Kyle Williams to help them get over Prospect at Police Field.
