MR Onions beat Lobster Pot to go three points clear

MR Onions moved three points clear at the top of the Commercial A league after beating Lobster Pot 2-0 at the weekend.

Onions enjoyed the greater possession but struggled to break down a determined Lobster Pot defence in a close game of few chances.

The league leaders went ahead shortly before half-time when Eoghan O'Dwyer netted from the penalty spot after pushing at a corner. And O'Dwyer turned provider midway through the second half when his corner was met by a firm Colin Keane header to put the hosts 2-0 up. Lobster Pot created little but had a shot cleared off the line.

Dandy Town Roots and Tuff Dogs fought out an entertaining 4-4 draw at St. John's field. Dogs took the lead early in the first half when they failed to clear a corner and Kevin Warner was on hand to thump the ball home from close range.

Roots fought back and equalised through Darron Simons who turned sharply inside the area and drove home.

Just before the break, Dogs took the lead after Roots failed to clear a long ball. The second half saw the Roots equalise through a powerful header by Lloyd Christopher from a corner.

Roots then took the lead when Maurice Lowe supplied the perfect pass to Simons who slotted home at the near post. The same combination combined again for Simons' hat-trick. However, Tuff Dogs managed to score a deserved equaliser in the dying minutes.

Valley and BAA shared the points in a 2-2 draw. BAA started brightly when, after good work by Paul Colville on the left, Sean Hill opened the scoring after five minutes with a good finish from 20 yards.

It was no surprise when BAA doubled their advantage when, after superb approach play from Jim Campbell, Hill scored his second.

The second half saw Valley get back into the game when Oscar Riley scored from a corner as BAA failed to clear the ball.

Valley then stepped up a gear and were unlucky not to draw level when a superbly headed goal was ruled out for offside. However the equaliser was not long in coming and Al (Jah T) Thomas scored for Valley as BAA once more failed to clear their lines from a set piece.

Robin Hood are now second after goals from Derek Stapeley and Kenny Dill gave them a 2-0 win over Key West Rangers. And Somerset Extros notched their first victory of the season with a 4-3 win over North Village Rams.

In the Commercial B Division Group One Boulevard are top after beating St. George's All-Stars 4-3 with goals from Cleve Rogers, Troy Smith, Warren Iris and Easton Joell. All-Stars got off to a good start when Stevie Dickinson found the net from close range. Boulevard responded with some lively play and soon had All-Stars on the back foot hitting them with three unanswered goals to finish out the half 3-1 ahead. Lionel Cann got two quick goals to level but All-Stars were rocked five minutes from the end when Boulevard notched the winner.

Hamilton Parish beat Vasco 5-3 with two goals from Irving Burgess and further strikes from Philip Burgess, Corey Hill and Raymond Outerbridge.

It stood 2-2 at the break with Vasco goals coming from Kennedy Wainwright and Ricardo Arruda. In the second half, it was much the same, with both team creating chances but it was Parish who best capitalised on them.

Vasco were awarded two penalties after the break with Joe Barbosa notching one of them. Another guilt-edged chance fell to Ricardo Arruda who rounded the keeper but failed to slot the ball into an empty net from two yards out but Parish were not so shy in front of goal and wrapped up the win.

PHC Raiders dominated from start to finish as they beat Somerset Bridge Peskies 6-1. Michael Trott opened the scoring with a early goal to make it 1-0. André Caines flicked on for Sheridan (Baldy) Ming to tuck in the second. Craig Crichlow slammed the ball into the roof of the net to make it 3-0. André Caines fired in a rocket inside the box to make it 4-0 at the half.

Peskies finally got on the goal sheet after Eddie Calendar lofted over the box after a one on one with Raiders keeper. Ming added his second to make it 5-1 and defender Deunte Darrell wrapped up the win.

In Group Two of the B Division Prospect/Fire move to the top after putting six goals past Wolves. Daniel Stovell got a late consolation from a cross delivered by Bobby Smith.

Devonshire All-Stars are behind on goal difference after a 3-2 win over Pest Control after goals from Valdrin Walcott, William Benjamin and Germanho Bothelo. Jamie Matthews and Khalid Lovell notched for Pest Control.

Devonshire Lions lost their grip on top spot after being held to a 2-2 draw by MR Onions Real Men. Onions raced to a 2-0 lead with goals from Phil Heaney and Kal Brosseau in the first 20 minutes before Lions' Shavaughn Smith hammered home a free-kick after numerous retakes and an unmarked Shawn Smith had a free header to equalise. Lions dominated in the second half but could not find a winner.
