Privy Council to hear Dennis Robinson murder appeal
Dennis Robinson, the man found guilty along with Kenneth Burgess of murdering the Cooper twins, is to appeal his conviction and sentence at the Privy Council in London.
The Privy Council is Bermuda's highest court of appeal, and a panel of five judges there will hear Robinson's case on December 15 and 16.
The Court of Appeal for Bermuda dismissed Robinson's appeal against his conviction in March 2008. However it allowed, in part, his appeal against sentence in November 2008, reducing the number of years imprisonment he must serve before being eligible for parole from 15 years to 12 years.
However, following an application made on his behalf by John Perry QC and local defence lawyer Craig Attridge to the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council, leave was granted to Robinson last week to challenge the findings of the Court of Appeal in respect of both his conviction and sentence.
Robinson was found guilty of being the man who guarded the door during the murders in 2005, while Burgess bludgeoned the twins to death.
