BSX has solid week

The Royal Gazette / Bermuda Stock Exchange Index made a 1.56 percent gain last week as five local companies saw their share prices rise.

Belco Holdings Ltd. enjoyed the biggest jump, rising 9.89 percent over the week. The energy provider gained $2.25 to close Friday on $25, as 2,282 of its shares were sold.

Insurers BF&M Ltd. also enjoyed a good week as its shares rose by 50 cents (2.78 percent) to close at $18.50, on the sale of 25,187 shares.

Two banks also advanced. Bermuda Commercial Bank Ltd. gained 20 cents (2.05 percent) to close on $9.95, while Butterfield Bank Ltd. progressed 50 cents (0.88 percent) to close the week on $57. A total of 35,100 BCB shares traded and and 7,696 of Butterfield.

KeyTech Ltd., the parent company of BTC, also made a modest gain, rising 5 cents (0.32 percent) to close on $15.55, as 10.907 shares sold.

The Index closed Friday on 4,959.12, up for the week by 77.37 points. Volume was 106,495 shares and turnover $1,816,043.85.
