Eco team making progress
Bermuda's team in the Eco-Challenge Fiji 2002 are now on the fourth stage of the expedition race, having completed the second and third stages of the event over the weekend.
At 3 p.m. (Bermuda time) yesterday they were lying 72nd out of 81 teams. One team have already been disqualified while two others are now unranked.
The top 11 teams had passed checkpoint five and the race was being led by Montrail/Parallax of the USA with the French team, Spie, in second.
For the fourth leg of their multi-terrain adventure, the Bermudians - Kim Mason (captain) Lee Harrison, Kevin Pearson and Jim Butterfield - had to trek through the Sovi Basin (known as the Lost World) and then through a valley with a steep, narrow canyon before collecting their mountain bikes. Thereafter, they were to ride to checkpoint number four.
On arrival there, they collect their inflatable kayaks, mandatory safety gear and climbing equipment as they head off on the fifth race stage.
