Dwayne returns to Red Devils
transfers of 1994, Bermuda's national goalkeeper Dwayne Adams is preparing to return to his former club.
Adams is among a list of 126 players who obtained releases to transfer, although a number have not gone ahead with their original plans and will now remain with their clubs for another season.
But in the case of Adams, playing in the Second Division is not on the cards.
He confirmed yesterday that he would rejoin North Village, and sports chairman Sherwin Dill welcomed the news with delight.
"Yes, we know he is coming back, it's good news,'' said Dill.
Adams said that he made the decision after Saturday's Olympic tie against Costa Rica, claiming that the thought of playing at a lower level (in the Second Divison with relegated BAA) would not help his career.
"As the captain of the senior national team I feel that I should be playing at the highest level here in the Island, not in the Second Division. I know that BAA will be disappointed, but that's my decision,'' said Adams.
He admitted that leaving Village had left some with a sour taste. But he said he felt comfortable returning to where he started out as a youngster in junior soccer.
Even while playing for BAA, he often headed to North Village after matches to enjoy mixing with his old team-mates.
"I was brought up around there, it's like I have never left, it's like home.
So going back will be no big deal. I left at the time simply because I needed a new challenge. Now I am ready to go back,'' he said.
North Village trounced BAA 8-0 in their first league encounter last season with Adams in goal, but the goalkeeper doesn't consider that match as being one of his most humiliating.
"It wasn't a big deal. I hadn't been training at the time after just coming off a suspension following the dispute with (coaching director Burkhard) Ziese. So it wasn't as demoralising as one might think.
"If anything the occasion gave me a boost, it inspired me to get into shape and rebound and that was what happened.'' Among others who applied for transfers were: Shawn Smith (from Cougars to Vasco); Craig Critchlow (BAA to PHC); Andre Thompson (staying with BAA); Marlon Lindsay (from Cougars back to Wolves); Dwayne Bean (Cougars to Boulevard); George Dyer (Cougars, no form*); Dale Russell (Cougars, no form*); Jamel Salaam (Cougars, no form*); Darrid Durrant (Cougars to Somerset); Sam Maybury, Terrence Christopher (Eagles, no forms*); Clinton Cailsey (Vasco to Boulevard) Larance Durham (Vasco to Village); Mark Ray (Vasco, to Colts); Paul Place (Somerset to D.Town); Randy Simmons (Somerset to Southampton); Kelly Simmons (Somerset to Southampton); Kwame Tucker (Somerset to Southamton); Dion Minors (Somerset to Eagles); Steven Burrows (Somerset, no form*); Chris Caisey (Dev.
